MĀLA O KA PONO LLC
Have you ever wondered what life would be like if we all took good care of the land and people around us?
We have, and since September 2020 we have been developing a regenerative agroforestry farm and permaculture project on twenty-seven acres of beautiful land in Haiku, Maui.
Our dream is to create a sustainable community based on permaculture principals that can help feed the people in our community with nutrient rich foods, provide space for education, art, natural healing, personal and spiritual development. All this while helping restore the environment and having fun.
WHERE ARE WE AT IN THE PROCESS?
Well, we have spent the last two years developing infrastructure and now have a large greenhouse and agricultural headquarters building that we operate out of.
We have planted two agroforestry systems for a total of half an acre food forest that is filled with a high diversity of edible plants.
We have demolished old farm buildings and cleaned up our once trashed gulch to create a beautiful space to host events and education.
We have built roads, trails, erected fences, planted many trees and have been working hard at expanding our gardens and landscaping.
We are in the process of designing buildings, gardens, farm plots, and sacred spaces.
We are well on our way to establishing a permaculture community, however we are just beginning.
We still have over twenty-four acres of undeveloped land that is awaiting some love.
WE ARE WORKING HARD TO BE ABLE TO HOLD SPACE FOR MORE PEOPLE TO COME HELP US WITH THIS MASSIVE PROJECT.
Can you help us? Do you want to support us? Do you want to join us?
When we purchased our land it had been abandoned by all but a few cows for over 20 years. Before that it was a pig farm, and before that pineapple was farmed in the early 1900’s. They all had left a mess with the remnants of old rusty building, trash and farming equipment scattered throughout the landscape. We spent the first 6 months removing trash and the 8,000 sq ft pig pen that was falling apart in our beautiful gulch. We turned the old slaughter house into our agricultural headquarters and now finally after 2 years of work we are ready to begin moving forward with our dream.
Please let us know, we are awaiting your support.
